What is Taekwon-Do?
Originating from Korea, Taekwon-Do was officially recognised in 1955 as a form of unarmed combat. Founded by Grand Master General Choi Hong Hi, through research of other martial arts and the use of modern scientific principles, Taekwon-Do was developed for the purpose of self defence.
When translated, "Tae" stands for jumping or flying, to kick with the foot. "Kwon" symbolises the fist - mainly to punch
and "Do" means an art, way or method.
Renowned for it's flashy kicks and ability to generate maximum force in all techniques, Taekwon-Do is arguably one of the most dynamic martial arts in the world. However, when translated, the “
Do” refers to the mental discipline and way of life that separates each practitioner from mastering only the fighting aspects.
With a strong focus on integrity, justice and humility, Taekwon-Do continues to grow in popularity and is taught in almost every country across the globe.
Who we are
We are a South London based Taekwon-Do group, with over 15 years of teaching experience for people of all ages.
From holding breakfast, after school and PE classes at a number of independent and state schools, to 1 on 1 private sessions, martial arts based fitness programs and community classes, we offer a safe space for students to explore who they are physically, mentally and spiritually.
Our club name is inspired by the evergreen tree, which is the the symbol of Taekwon-Do. Found on the back our uniforms, the evergreen tree is representative of each students long and humble journey throughout the art.
We at Evergreen Taekwon-Do encourage those who train with us to bring peace to each experience, stand tall in all circumstances and no matter the surrounding, flourish and grow just as the evergreen tree would do.
Our Classes
Minimasters
3 - 6 years old
Designed with our younger practitioners in mind, these classes assist in creating a strong foundation for not just Teakwon-Do but in all areas of life.
Children develop advanced physical skills, through fitness challenges, pad work and games and with a strong focus on fun activities and role play, children are also assisted in expanding their understanding of important life skills.
Children are guided through scenarios such as what to do if they were ever lost, dealing with bullies, stranger awareness and feeling confident in reporting situations to safe adults.
We encourage children to explore their behaviours, attitudes and emotions, through positive affirmations, confidence coaching and mindful breathing. Along with our award scheme, this newfound mindset promotes goal-setting, keeps children motivated and focus their energy attributing to a healthy lifestyle from an early age.
Junior and Adult
7 years and above
These classes are structured in a way that challenges the student to improve with each session.
Through a mixture of Taekwon-Do movements, cardio based exercises and strength training, students develop their all round fitness, confidence and self belief. With increased flexibility and reduced stress, the fluidity of everyday task is also improves.
Kicking, punching, sparring and self defence techniques are taught alongside the technical movements of each grade (belt level) and students are encouraged to progress through the ranks towards black belt.
Students are both supported and motivated to remain grounded and stay disciplined whilst becoming an even better version of themselves.
Our Instructor
Our chief instructor Amanda Delaney is the heart of Evergreen TKD. Amanda has been part of the Taekwon-Do world for many years and although she enjoys the competitive side of the martial art, teaching has always been her passion.
Having taught hundreds of students over the years, Amanda strives to bring out the best in all those she comes into contact with. With a positive approach to teaching, Amanda motivates those who take part to push a little bit harder, believe that anything is possible and truly appreciate the journey because greatness starts within.
